Fake Financial Times handed out in London

Here's a fake Financial Times that was handed out in London last week as a protest in preparation for the G20 this week. The 12 page paper is set in the year 2020 and features articles discussing Capitalism, the Environment and Human Rights. Thousands of copies were handed out, with the project costing around £10,000 and mainly made up from donations.

The paper calls for more responsible journalism and reporting. Think it's a great little project, and they look to have really captured the style and design of the FT. Good little protest piece.

Anti-terror posters

I don't often rant on DesignYak, I see it more of a place to come and look at clever ideas and good design, but occasionally, something vexes me. Here are some 'anti-terror' posters from the Metropolitan Police, and I believe, sink to a new low in encouraging people to report on individuals who may or may not be up to no good. For me they just create fear mongering and suspicion. 

To openly encourage people to look through neighbours bins etc is plain stupid, it will lead to false reports, cause stress to a lot of people concerned and waste even more police time. Blind leading the blind comes to mind. It again brings up the persuasive power of design and propaganda and all the debates that go with it. Of course, this is just my opinion, I'd be interested if anyone has any conflicting comments, and also to think of the designer who had to produce these posters. I wonder if they had any strong views on the subject matter they were working on and the moral decisions involved with working with sensitive materials. Via

This is Toy

Awesome. Ruddy love this illustration, great idea. I was pointed in the direction of Toy a little while ago, a collaboration of styles across product, motion, print and screen, Toy features some really cool work. The dog wearing a cat mask is by Jean Jullien. Below is an elephant inspired illustration by Nicolas Tual, aka Dekore, and ‘Zombies’ by Jon Boam.

Get them off

This giant “floor sticker” was placed in a shopping centre in Indonesia, the ad is for Frontline Flea & Tick Spray and uses the slogan, “Get them off your dog.” Viewed from above, the people walking on the ad look surprisingly flea-like. Perwanal Saatchi & Saatchi in Jakarta are responsible for the ad. Pretty cool. Via thecoolhunter
