Vann Nath
Whilst visiting the killing fields of Cambodia, we read about a prisoner called Vann Nath. He was an artist and one of a few people who survived the S21 prison, mainly down to being made to paint portraits of Pol Pot and other high profile leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime. Vann Nath went on to become one of Cambodia's most important artists, painting and documenting the Khmer Rouge period. Sadly, Vann Nath passed away earlier this month, but it was good to hear his story and how he influenced the young artists we met in Cambodia.

Robit
We were lucky enough to meet some local artists and designers in Battambang and one, Robit, invited us to his home/studio to show us his work.
Robit studies at a local art school and shortly going to Paris to study.
We hope to follow Robit and others to see how they are getting on, but it was an absolute privilage to meet these young artists who are helping to shape the future of Cambodia.
Painting over the Khmer Rouge
Near some killing caves near Battambang from the Khmer Rouge era, we found this old Khmer Rouge prison which is now being turned into a temple and completely painted over.
