Just got
round to watching Waltz with Bashir, missed it at cinema, so I had to make
do with the small screen. It tells the tale of a veteran of the 1982 Lebanon
War with the focus being on Ari Folman who struggles to remember the
events that took place and his own role in the carnage. It's
brilliant, visually it's incredible, with each frame full of real depth and
texture. It's great to see such a bleak subject matter depicted using a
technique more commonly associated with kids films. The visual style adds to
the story and the switch to actual footage only serves to make it feel more
real and hard hitting. I’m not entirely sure how the scenes were created but I
imagine footage was taken of locations and then the animators went to work; the
end result is stunning. Check out the trailer below, as the man in Blockbusters
said, it is "sick man!"
