The Cardiff Design Festival's deadline for submissions is today. Their website has a showcase of work submitted. I thought I'd share what we at Staziker Jones have entered, but just to be clear, this work was created before I joined two months ago. I think we've entered some good projects, fingers crossed they'll go down well with the judges. First up...
Project: To challenge the stereotypical image of the Accountant and to firmly establish the company within its primary target market. After a lot of research and a series of intensive workshops we were able to establish that they are a young, very professional, forward thinking, fun-loving bunch which allowed us to turn everything that we perceive of a ‘bean counter’ on its head. To that end, a cool, simple and confident approach to the typography combined with the fun, colourful and delicious jelly beans was wholly appropriate. The concept has been successfully applied to all stationery, marketing material, signage and online activity.

Project: Publishing formed the backbone of the agency when it began in 1996 and we continue to work within the industry today. In the past two years we have created at least sixty book covers for Marshall Cavendish relating to various areas of business and lifestyle. Without exception these books have been aimed at the trade market which immediately suggests a particular approach to style and tone of voice. With each title a product in its own right, it gave us the opportunity to approach each one individually, producing a solution that reflected the content of the book and appealing to it’s particular audience.
Project: CIA are at the cutting edge of illustration and at the centre of their industry, not only in London but worldwide. With an established reputation and strong personality the agency already had the makings of a great brand, however, the idea of presenting this brand in a uniform and cohesive way had slipped them by. The brand very much needed to reflect the personalities who drive the agency whilst allowing the ‘heroes’, the illustrators’ work to shine through. We achieved this by introducing a palette of bright colours and a simple direct use of typography contained within a very formal grid structure. The use of language was also very important and we spent time developing a style that is now used across all of their communication. The brand has now been applied to stationery, newsletters, online communication, web site banner advertising, an illustration authenticity certificate and an exhibition at the recent Creative Review Portfolio Show.
